On September 22, Latvian Institute of International Affairs in cooperation with the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, Institute of International Relations and Political Science – Vilnius University, and Baltic-American Freedom Foundation (BAFF) invites you to a public lecture by Dr. Daniel Hamilton “The State of Transatlantic Relations and the Possible Impact of US Presidential Elections”.

US foreign policy is about to witness a significant change as President Obama’s term expires in the late fall this year. The arrival of a newly elected President will most probably have a considerable impact on US attitude towards Transatlantic cooperation both in economic and security matters, with the latter being particularly important for the Baltic States. Through this lecture, Dr. Hamilton will focus on chances of the candidates and implications of their victories for Transatlantic and European economic and security agenda. Having a particularly rich background in the academic writings with a focus on Transatlantic relations, he will address possible change of the place of the Baltics in particular and the EU in general on the US security agenda too.

Dr. Daniel Hamilton is expert in fields of NATO, US-EU/TTIP agreement, US domestic setting for US foreign policy, US policy in Russia and Eastern Europe. Guests will be able to find answers to their questions related to those issues. Latvian Institute of International Affairs kindly invites you to attend the lecture that will take place on 22 September 2016 from 13:00-14:30 at the Stockholm School of Economics (Strēlnieku street 4A, Riga), Soros Auditorium.

Dr. Daniel Hamilton is the Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation Professor and Director of the Centre for Transatlantic at Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Washington, D.C. This centre was named in annual surveys conducted by the University of Pennsylvania as the 6th leading “Global Go To University Think Tank” in 2011. Dr. Daniel Hamilton has held a variety of senior positions in the US Department of State, including Deputy Assistant Secretary for European Affairs, responsible for NATO, OSCE and transatlantic security issues.
